Psychologists are non-medical specialists who diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders. Psychologists differ from psychiatrists in that they have have not acquired an MD degree, and cannot prescribe medications.

Psychology is the study of the function and processes of the brain and emotional and mental behavior. Psychologists are engaged in research, teaching, testing, evaluation, therapy and non-medical treatment. They will often refer patients to a psychiatrist for further treatment.
